New Year’s Eve is on everyone’s social
calendar, with dresses, suits and events picked out a month in advance, and excited chatter about the one
special night can be heard everywhere. I never understood why people spent weeks planning and thousands of
dollars on just this one night, until now: No matter the age, gender or race, we’re all celebrating the same
thing. We have goals and aspirations for the next year (which are often easier said than done), and we look
forward to what the future has in store for us, in 2012, with positivity. And there’s no better way to start
the New Year than by looking great in an outfit that truly reflects your style.
Fashion is meant to
fade, as trends come and go every season. But an outfit that you’re comfortable and confident in is sure to
be a hit every time. In other words, if you feel uncomfortable in what you’re wearing, chances are others see
it too.
NYE is infamous for bringing out the metallics and sequins, and most opt for an overdone look, which is
fabulous if the occasion calls for it. But this year, it’s all about keeping the clothing simple and making
up for it with accessories. Whether you go for a floor-length gown or an above-the-knee A-line dress, keep
the patterns, cuts and slits to a minimum and the necklaces, bracelets and rings at a maximum.
If you really want to catch all the eyes in the room, try a sleek tuxedo suit to
go with this year’s androgynous look. Add a touch of femme with a thick, double-winged liner and a bright
lipstick for your makeup, collar pins and chunky bracelets, and sky-high heels to straighten your figure.
