Everyone has their funny little quirks. One of mine is
reading a novel first, before it is adapted into a movie. Try as hard as the filmmaker may to bring a story
to life up on that giant screen, I often find nothing compares to the retreats of one’s imagination while
relaxing with a fine read.
And so, I refrained from the recent Eat Pray Love phenomenon, promising myself to see the movie only
after reading Gilbert’s memoirs.
I’m glad to say that so far, I’ve kept my promise. It’s unfortunate that a lot of content often goes missing
during the movie-making process, probably due to editing. But what I find even more comforting is the
experience of holding the original story in my hands. If this sounds old-fashioned (no offense intended, iPad
users), well, then I guess that it somewhat is.
The good news, however, is old loves rarely die. So yes, I do require the tangible experience of holding a
book in my hands. But no matter how one comes across a story, be it a novel, movie or computer, the important
point to remember is to enjoy the content.
