This month has brought warm weather to accompany
the changing colours of the leaves, and with that comes the perfect opportunity to hit the streets and visit
local galleries and sites that really flourish in the fall.
If you happen to be in the
Big Apple this month be sure to immerse yourself in "Archtober," New York’s Architecture and Design Month
which features exhibitions, site displays and a variety of design activities.
Archtober’s mission is to
raise awareness on the importance of design and architecture by providing tours, lectures and films that
showcase design in everyday life.
New York City’s
Architecture Week, founded in 2003, took place during the second week of October for the past 8 years,
welcoming locals and visitors to the city through the world of New York architecture. This, in conjunction
with the 2010 Architecture & Design Film Festival, spawned Architecture week into a full month of
design-inspired festivities in the city, known as Archtober.
Participants in the
month-long engagement include: National Design Museum, Smithsonian Institution, IIDA New York Chapter, The
Museum of Art and Design, and the MOMA, along with many others.
If you are in the city
during the month of October, be sure to visit the sites and experience some of the world’s finest
architecture.
