Robert Land Academy provides structure for success

By Hanna Mohammed | December 15, 2010

An all-boys Canadian private boarding school with a military theme, Robert Land Academy (RLA) provides an encouraging, safe and healthy environment for its students to advance academically, physically and socially.

“Motivating, educating and uplifting every student that enters its gates is a goal more than achievable for Robert Land Academy,” says admissions officer Lieutenant Greg Hewett.

Nestled on 168 acres in the heart of the picturesque Niagara Peninsula, approximately one hour from Toronto and 55 minutes from the U.S. border, the academy founded in 1978 provides students from Grades 6 through 12 with everything they need. The campus includes academic buildings, living and dining quarters, and a well-equipped gymnasium, and is surrounded by the magnificent hardwood forests of Niagara. Free from urban distractions, the setting is ideal for students to become focused and dedicated to their studies.

Accepting students based on their potential for success rather than past performance, RLA enrolls students from across Canada, the United States and other countries from around the globe. Throughout more than 30 years of operation, Robert Land Academy has developed a reputation as an ideal choice for parents with sons who exhibit motivation and self-discipline problems, are falling behind in school, or may have been diagnosed with ADHD, LD, ADD, ODD and other learning disabilities. The military theme encourages boys to accept responsibility for their actions, learn to work effectively in a team, and positively contribute to a series of collective goals with peers. RLA provides a way of life that builds a boy’s self-confidence and respect for others while he realizes his highest potentials.

Days begin at 6 a.m. and are filled with learning and leadership opportunities. Physical education and organized sports, academic classes, tutorials, supervised study, a healthy wholesome diet, lessons in proper manners, and recreation that ranges from a host of clubs including boxing, weight lifting and climbing, comprise a student’s day.

Order and discipline characterize campus life and are equally evident in each student’s rigorous academic schedule, which is designed to catch boys up academically who may be as much as three grades behind when they arrive. By contrast, upon graduation from Grade 12 it is traditional that 100 per cent of the graduates who apply for university are accepted.

Genuine, authentic achievement through personal effort and hard work is the academy’s goal for each of its students in all areas of endeavour — thereby building true self-esteem and confidence that will last well beyond their years at Robert Land Academy. •
