Fashion Week is back in Toronto and attracting people from
all over the world to see Spring 2011 collections.
I will be attending as many shows as I can to cover the trends that await us after we get through another
cold, Canadian winter.
This year’s venue is the Heritage Court at the CNE grounds,
which will give designers and artists more space than ever to build installations, display collections on
mannequins rather than live models, and more.
As I looked through the calendar, I noticed that there are a lot of new designers showing their collections
for the first time. I was disappointed to see that my old favourites like Evan Biddell and Lucian Matis
were missing from the long list of designers.
On my list of must-see shows are Pink Tartan, Joe Fresh Style, Amanda Lew Kee and Klaxon Howl. Visiting the websites of new designers like Jules Power, Rachel Mara, Chloé comme Parris and Baby Steinberg, it’s obvious that Fashion Week has been taken over by a new generation of young designers. Mixing vintage with modern elements, these new designers are certainly stirring things up and following the lead of trendy designers like Alexander Wang and Erin Wasson.
I’ve got my camera, notepad and outfits all ready to keep Lifestyle readers posted on the shows, gossip and trends. I’ll be posting daily articles, blog posts and trend reports on our website, along with coverage in our Winter 2010 print issue of the magazine.
