INFORMATIONAL SUPPLEMENT
Originally established as a universitypreparatory school, Meadowridge has enjoyed a 100
per cent post-secondary acceptance rate since 1999. While there is a strong focus on academics, the staff
know the students they are sending off to university need to be well-rounded once they leave the halls of the
school. With anticipated accreditation of the Diploma Programme in September 2012, Meadowridge will be one of
only four schools in B.C. accredited to offer the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme,
Middle Years Programme and Diploma Programme. These IB programs are tailored to help students create a better
world through education while growing as an individual based on the IB learner profile. Located on 16 acres
of land in Maple Ridge, B.C., east of Vancouver, the school accommodates over 540 boys and girls from junior
kindergarten to Grade 12 in their spacious 103,000-square-foot facility.
Q&A: Daniel Le Page
Daniel Le Page, director of admissions, talks about Meadowridge’s full IB World
School program, the importance of community, and university
preparation.
How does Meadowridge ensure each IB student embodies the learner
profile?
The learner profile is something that is woven into our culture and students begin to
embody from the onset of their education at Meadowridge. Even the youngest children in our school are
familiar with these attributes. Some of the dispositions that we help our students develop include being
knowledgeable, caring, open-minded, principled and balanced. These are things that we find very important for
children to live and reflect upon throughout the years. We think they are inherent values that have been
embedded not only in the academic side of the school, but also in our athletics, arts, co-curriculars, and
our community service.
How is the school’s mission statement, “Learning to live well, with others and for
others, in a just community,” woven into the student experience at
Meadowridge?
Meadowridge is a community within a greater community and we emphasize an understanding
of our responsibilities as global citizens. As lifelong learners in a constantly changing world, we prepare
people who can affect this change in positive ways and leave lasting impressions with those people they meet
along the way. There is a great sense of pride in belonging to our community and with that, an equal amount
of respect for the other members in
it.
What does Meadowridge do to help students with university
preparation?
Students are introduced to the thought of going to university and the many opportunities
that exist from the moment they begin at Meadowridge. Application to at least five post-secondary
institutions is strongly encouraged — something that we consistently accomplish through mentorship and
counselling. Along the way we work very closely with our students both academically and personally to help
tailor their choice of university to suit each individual’s educational endeavours. In addition to visiting
the campuses nearest our school each year, we also host representatives from many notable universities across
Canada in a community event. This allows our students to make informed decisions with regards to the choices
that will affect their future. Beyond this, the continued success of our graduates as alumni of Meadowridge
is equally important.
IB
Programmes
Meadowridge is a candidate for the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme
for Grades 11 and 12, with an anticipated start date of September 2012. The school currently offers the IB
Primary Years Programme designed for elementary school students from junior kindergarten to Grade 5, and the
IB Middle Years Programme for students Grades 6 to 10.
“We will be one of only four schools in British Columbia to offer the full IB World
School continuum of programs from junior kindergarten to Grade 12 and one of eight schools throughout Canada
that have this full accreditation,” says Daniel Le Page, director of
admissions.
Through its inclusion of the IB Programmes, Meadowridge is part of a worldwide community
of educators with the common goal of providing students with the best well-rounded education and skills to be
future leaders.
