Ever look through a dated photo album and think, “What on earth was I thinking wearing that outfit?” CosmoTV’s new style documentary series is doing just the same, but with your favourite celebrities. Wardrobes change, trends come and go like seasons, and Styleography is here to discuss them.
Featuring Hollywood’s biggest stars and their evolving looks, each episode of Styleography focuses on a theme through the careers of three stars. Through movie clips as well as behind-the-scenes and red carpet footage, industry experts comment on everything from makeup and clothes to body image. Although fashion is often accused of provoking body image issues and limiting beauty to a single definition, the show promotes the opposite with a sprinkle of humour.
Masterminds Jenny Steele, Andra Alexis and Lindsay Meli are the reporters on the show — all full of pop culture and entertainment expertise. “The inspiration for Styleography came when we were looking through the vast selection of celebrity interviews from our library,” Steele, who is also a television producer at Pyramid Productions, told Lifestyle. “It was hilarious seeing the stars’ dated looks throughout their careers and we thought it would be a fun and fabulous concept for a show.”
Each reporter has their own approach to fashion. When
asked to describe their own style, Meli said, “You’ll rarely see me in jeans or flats; I’m all about dresses
and heels.” But Steele’s petite frame has her wearing more fitted ensembles and a lot of jeans, and Alexis’
fiery red hair has her in boho-chic earth tones.
The first episode, “Curvlicious,” focuses on curves and the three celebrities who embrace them the best. Jennifer Lopez, Kate Winslet and Scarlett Johansson know how to work their curves. Seen in all types of body-hugging outfits, these stars know better than to be fooled by the pressures of a size-zero fashion industry. Beauty and style experts along with journalists and designers will separate the good, the bad, the ugly and the jail-worthy fashion crimes.
But what use would criticism be if it wasn’t constructive? Each week, experts share tips and advice on how to avoid and achieve the stars’ looks with your own twist. “Every one of us has learned a little something from the tips,” said Steele regarding the show.
Makeup guru Sandy Gold is one of the beauty panelists showing viewers demonstrations, tricks and techniques from her very own bathroom. “Makeup is just as much a part of individual style as a pair of sexy stilettos,” said Gold as she caught up with Lifestyle about the show. “To me the perfect look is one that expresses your own individual personality — where hair, makeup and wardrobe work together seamlessly to tell a cohesive story.”
Renowned stylist David Clemmer, who’s appeared on Entertainment Tonight, Star TV and the hit show Style by Jury, will also be one of the experts on the show.
